David Petruzelli
David Petruzelli began his career in professional philately as an auction describer in 1978. For almost 20 years, he worked with a number of auction houses including William Fox, Robert Kaufmann, Louis K. Robbins and Robert Siegel Auction Galleries at which he honed his knowledge and expertise of both United States stamps and covers before joining The Philatelic Foundation in 1997. A member of the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society for many years, he has a long time interest in postal history and color studies, in particular the shades of the five cent 1847 and the three cent 1851 Issue. In 2016 he was invited to serve with the Expert Group for World Stamp Show’s jury in New York. Outside of philately, he has published in The New Yorker, The Southern Review, Virginia Quarterly Review and numerous literary journals. His poetry collection, Everyone Coming Toward You, published in 2005, won the Tupelo Press Judge’s Prize. He resides in Manhattan.
